Online Bachelor's Nursing Degrees

A Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) degree is open to recent high school graduates, Licensed Practical Nurses (LPNs), Registered Nurses (RNs), and college graduates of other disciplines as well. The curriculum and duration of study varies according to the student’s qualifications. The BSN program prepares graduates to practice general nursing in hospitals and other health care facilities. Coursework is a combination of biological, physical and social sciences, liberal arts, and behavioral studies. They are trained in advanced techniques and procedures, both in general nursing and in administration.

Degree Prerequisites

Recent high school graduates are eligible to apply for the BSN program if they have taken the SAT or ACT exams, but qualifying scores and GPAs vary by school. Applicants must have completed 3 years of high school Mathematics and Science, 4 years of English, and 2 years of foreign language. Registered Nurses with an Associate Degree in Nursing should have a valid RN nursing license and attended a school accredited by the National League of Nursing (NLN) with a qualifying GPA.

Licensed Private Nurses must successfully complete their coursework and clinical training and hold a valid LPN license to apply for a BSN.

College graduates of other degrees are eligible to apply for admission to a BSN program if they have a qualifying GPA.

Post Graduation Expectations

A BSN degree will help RNs and LPNs advance their careers in the nursing field or make a career change into teaching. A BSN is a prerequisite for a Master’s degree in Nursing, which can lead to better job prospects and a higher salary. Nurses with a BSN are in high demand not only in hospitals, but also in homes to look after children and the terminally ill, as travel nurses who work in different parts of the world, and more. An online BSN program is especially helpful for RNs and LPNs who wish to continue working while studying at their own pace.
